Senior Engineer / Engineer - Functional Fabric or Fiber Development (Ref. 18067)
Duties The appointee will work on the development of functional and sustainable fabric or fiber materials for applications in apparel and/or protective clothing, with key features such as but not limited to Moisture Management, Odor Elimination and Fire Retardancy. He/she will work in a dynamic team which is responsible for:
  • Design and fabrication of formulation comprising polymer composite material, and integration to suitable product forms including fabric and/or fiber;
  • Optimization of composite formulations for potential scale-up processes, using techniques such as dip-pad-dry-curing and/or fiber-spinning;
  • Characterization and testing of physical, chemical, and mechanical properties of the materials developed using test standards recognized by the industry;
  • Testing of the performance of the material that is tailored-made to the requirements of industrial partners;
  • Support scale up and commercialization of all R&D results for industrial partners;
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations in timely manner;
  • Meet all project timelines and milestones;
  • Support the incubation of ideas to explore new cooperation opportunities with industrial partners; and
  • Perform other duties assigned by supervisor.
  • MPhil degree or above in Textile Science / Chemistry, Polymer Science / Engineering, Material Science / Engineering or related disciplines;
  • 1 year of industrial experience is required for master degree holder, or fresh PhD graduates will also be considered;
  • Prior experiences on functional fabric or fiber development, both laboratory and industrial scale, is an added advantage;
  • Candidates with industrial experience in the textile, apparel or protective clothing industry is an added advantage;
  • Knowledge of basic organic/inorganic reactions, and/or chemical synthesis, and/or catalysis is an added advantage;
  • Solid hands-on experiences in laboratory and work; experience in supporting scale-up process is an added advantage;
  • Competent in technical writing and reporting;
  • Ability to initiate and work independently;
  • A good team player with strong problem-solving and communications skills; creative in generating/incubating new ideas; and
  • Competent in spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese); ability to speak Mandarin is an advantage.
Salary and Benefits Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Medical and dental benefits as well as annual leave will be provided. Appointment will be offered on a contract basis, renewable subject to mutual agreement and performance.
